Don’t accept to be cheated, Kadaga speaks out to Youth on youth livelihood.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has told youth in Mityana not to accept to be cheated when  given Youth Livelihood Funds.

Kadaga made the remarks while launching the Mityana Youth Development Association today in Mityana.

She urged the youth to be vigilant when receiving the Youth Livelihood Fund because they were being cheated and given less than what they are supposed to receive.

“I am aware that youth have not been given the right amount of money they ask for; In my area I discovered that the figures of funds to be distributed did not tally with those given to me by the Ministry of Gender,” she said, adding that, “do not accept to receive money in piecemeal otherwise you will be cheated.”

The Speaker was responding to complaints from the youth about ill funding at the district level.

District Youth Councillor, Henry Ssebanakitta said that youth have no fund allocation yet they are the biggest taxpayers.

“Some of us have not been able to access the Youth Livelihood Fund yet we are wallowing in poverty; we have plenty of activities that we want to carry out to develop ourselves,”

Ssebanakitta said that they had a maize milling project that has failed to take of because of they lack the funds.

The Speaker however promised to support the maize-milling project by providing them with personnel to do training and equipment.

They won’t stand with Politicians who don’t value their activities.

The Mityana LCV Chairperson, Joseph Luzigge added that the youth have challenges of funding and they get only get Ushs 8 million on the district budget yet they contribute a lot.

The area MPs, Hon. David Kalwanga (Busujju) and Judith Nabakooba (Mityana District) expressed their gratitude for all the things the government and NRM have done for the youth.

They promised to use their power in Parliament to make sure that they iron out all issues faced by the youth.
