Oulanyah cautions MPs against involvement in acts that abuse the law

The speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah cautions MPs against involvement in acts that abuse the law and rights of people.

Speaker Oulanya was responding to a call by Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Ngaanda for parliament to rescue  Kawempe North MP Mohamed Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana for Makindye Division West who were charged with murder and sent to Kitalya prison over alleged involvement in recent greater Masaka murders.

Nganda tells parliament to take steps to have the two MPs released.

“The processes of privileges and parliamentary privileges have limitations as well, is not an open cheque that once you become a member of parliament therefore you engage in any acts, there limitations to those privileges, Rt Speaker Oulanya warned.

He noted the only privileges MPs have are those that protect free speech and actions taken at the chambers of parliament.

Speaker added parliament can’t engage in the matter since there are court processes going on but promises to visit them and have a talk with them.
