BUKEDEA, Uganda – Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has pledged continued loyalty to people of Bukedea District and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) following her unopposed declaration as Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament for the 2026–2031 term.

Among was declared unopposed by the Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Bukedea District, Mr. Charles Mugenyi, after other candidates failed to turne up for nomination by the close of the exercise for the position of District Woman representative .

Speaking shortly after her declaration, Among expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bukedea for what she described as unwavering trust and confidence in her leadership.

“I can assure you, I will never disappoint you. I will move with you and I am going to be the Speaker of the 12th Parliament,” she said, also naming Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as her  deputy in the next Parliament.

Among thanked her campaign team and supporters, emphasizing that her victory was a reflection of unity and consistent service delivery in Bukedea.

“Home is home. And I will not disappoint NRM because it has made me who I am. I can never disappoint my team here,” she said, adding that her leadership would continue to focus on development and community empowerment.

The Speaker also used the occasion to rally support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, urging residents of Bukedea to deliver him a “100 percent vote” in the upcoming elections as a gesture of appreciation for his leadership.

“The same way you have given me a post, give President Museveni 100 percent. That is the only way we can thank him for the peace, development, and stability he has brought,” she told the cheering crowd.

Among concluded her remarks with a message of unity and prayer for the district and the country.

“May God bless the people of Bukedea, bless Uganda as we protect our gains,” she said.

Among, who first entered Parliament in 2016, currently serves as Speaker of the 11th Parliament and a senior member of the NRM. Her unopposed nomination reinforces her growing political influence both in Bukedea and on the national stage.
