Govt Advised to Put Mechanisms To Encourage Youth Embrace Agric

By Godfrey Ssali

The UN resident coordinator in Uganda Susan Ngongi Namondo advises the Government to put in place mechanisms that will encourage youths to embrace Agriculture as a form of employment and wealth creation.

Namondo says that the involvement of youths in the sector remains low largely because of challenges that rotate around factors of production, especially funding and land.

She says that through the Food and Agriculture Organization and the United Nations Development Program, the UN system in Uganda has kick-started initiatives that Government can join to support youths in Agriculture

She says that these efforts can be useful in promoting youth’s involvement in Agriculture if well connected to the new Government Parish modal

This in her statement as Uganda commemorated the International Youths Day at Kololo ceremonial grounds

Namondo says that this year’s theme “Youth innovations for Transformation of Food Systems and Sustainable Human Health” is particularly relevant for Uganda because of the challenges it faces in food-related matters.
