The Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) and police have jointly intensified operations to recover people’s vehicles and motorcycles across the country.
The Community Liaison Officer/ Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, SP Michael Kananura, confirmed this.
SP Kananura commended the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS for assisting police to recover stolen vehicles and motorcycles and later returned to the rightful owners.
He cited the recent recovery of a vehicle registration number, UA812AW that was stolen from Buloba ,kampala along mityana road where the car owner register the complaint with CPS in kampala and police acted swiftly after receiving a report alert at ITMS through real-time tracking.
The system successfully located the stolen vehicle near Ntawo in mukono at geographical coordinates latitude.
Sp kananura said that ITMS is not only instrumental in improving road safety but also plays a vital role in enhancing public security and combating vehicle and motor cycle related crimes .
The Commercial and Relations Manager at Azat Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) Azat Akmyradov explained that “We appreciate the Ministry of Works and Transport and Uganda Police Force for their dedication to road safety and security through the ITMS project, their efforts to enhance vehicle recovery promote a safer transportation environment. We encourage the public to report a stolen vehicle or any safety concern promptly to the nearest police station, enabling swift action contributing to a more secure road safety for vehicle and motorcycle owners”.
The Public Relations and communication officer with the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) Priscah Pearl Ayesiga said that “When a vehicle or motorcycle is roadside stolen, it is essential for the person whose motorcycle has been stolen to report it to the police which is near him or her immediately, this allows the police to register the incident with the CID and initiate an investigation increasing the chances of recovery of that certain vehicle. By reporting the case promptly, you can help the police track your vehicle and bring it back to you as the rightful owner”.
