Kadaga, MPs decry child trafficking in guise of good life.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has commended good Samaritans who have offered help to young children whose rights are taken advantage of, and committed to support proposals to tackle the issue.

The Speaker made the remarks while meeting and interacting with caretakers of four children who had been brutalized by a one Edison Asiimwe, who purported to be a pastor in the guise of educating the children.

“In Kampala, everyone does their own business, so I want to thank Constant and his wife for identifying this issue and supporting these children,” Kadaga said.

The children were presented before the speaker by Godfrey Obore (LC1, Mutungo Zone 4) and Constant Etukot, a resident of Mutungo, who has since taken care of the children after being rescued from Asiimwe.

They were also accompanied by Hon. Okupa Elijah (FDC, Kasilo County), Hon. David Abala (NRM, Ngora Country) and Hon. Silas Aogon (Indp, Kumi Municipality).

“I will work with the IGP and Grace Akullo so that this case is wrapped up and see to it that the whole racket is broken,” added Kadaga.

Hon. Okupa noted that Police in Mutungo had mishandled the case reported to them saying, “What the Police has done is unacceptable, because they released these children and left the Pastor to go back with two other girls.”

Phillip Odongo, 12, Martin Ejiet, 9, Angella Akopo, 10, and Rose Amulo, 12, were picked by Edison Asiimwe from their homes in Kamenya – Kumi and Bugondo – Serere respectively, in the guise of giving them a better education.

They say 31 year old Edison Asiimwe masqueraded as a Bishop upon setting up churches in Teso, and convinced unsuspecting parents to send their children to him for a better life in Kampala.

Asiiwme is currently being detained at Jinja road Police station.
