Following a survey from the finance, planning and administration department of the university, it has been recommended that all government sponsored student residing in university halls of residence be given money for feeding and scrap the catering services the university administration has always been providing to students.

According to the vice chancellor, Prof. Barnabus Nawangwe, govt provides food to 2000 govt sponsored students resident in the university’s halls of residence and the survey indicates that 50% of the eligible students recommended that instead of university providing food, it should give them money to buy their own food.

Now the university council that sat on 1st march 2018 unanimously agreed to stop giving food to students and now each govt sponsored student will be getting UGX.476,000 per semester, equivalent toUGX.4500 a day.

However, the university student’s affairs committee is currently coming up with strategies aimed at ensuring that the university designates befitting commercial places for students on campus to buy food.
