MP Katuntu Surprises Many as He Backs Museveni in Among’s Bugweri Rally

Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu surprised many residents when he publicly spoke in support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during a rally organized by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among to mobilize votes for the NRM.

Katuntu joined the Speaker, who is his boss and Upon his arrival, Speaker Among invited him to address the crowd and encourage residents to vote for her candidate.

“My boss has asked me one thing—to ask for her boss votes—and I am to do it in this way,” Katuntu told the cheering crowd.

He contrasted the approach of canvassing votes in a good way to with that of another presidential hopeful who, he said, recently visited Buyanda and dismissed him without naming him.

“If someone doesn’t like you, what do you do?” Katuntu asked rhetorically. “If someone rejects you, there’s nothing to do but also to reject him.”

Katuntu emphasized that being an independent legislator does not prevent him from participating in national politics.

“I have no political party; I am independent. But I will vote in the presidential elections because being independent is not a political party,” he said.

He urged the Speaker to continue engaging with citizens, noting that many voters remain undecided.

“Maama, continue connecting with people and they will give your President votes,” he said. “People who are undecided about whom to vote are still many, and it is your responsibility—you who are seeking for votes—to go to them, both those you agree with and those you don’t.” Katutu noted.
