MPs,Minister on the List of Tax Defaulters

The ministry of finance has laid names of Members of parliament and a Minister before the committee of budget on the list of tax defaulters who are owing government billions of money.

This was discovered as Members of the Budget committee reviewed the government’s Charter of  Fiscal Responsibility.

But MPs disappointed with government lack of a clear commitment to clear the accruing domestic arrears which are currently standing at 4.1tn

Members of the parliamentary committee of budget have registered concerns over the absence of a clear commitment by government to clear Domestic Arrears which is suffocating the economy. While reviewing the government’s charter of fiscal Responsibility, MPs we’re shocked to learn that government’s domestic have recently increased rapidlyy  to a whopping 4.1 trillion shilings.

The Minister of State for planning Amos Lugoloobi told the committee that they are moving to sanction Accounting officers who continue to accumulate domestic Arrears and many will face contract terminations if they continue with the practice.

He also stunned the committee that a number of loans totaling to 11.3 trillions shilings which was borrowed by government have not been utilised yet they are accruing interests.

MPs questioned government Tax exemptions to different companies which total to 7.7 tn shilings . The committee of budget is concerned that these exemptions have to be reviewed because they are hurt the economy and they are the reason why government is failing to cleared iarrears it owes to the private sector

The committee also discovered that several governement officials owe government billions of money in custom tax arrears. These are mostly members of parliament  including Najuma Sarah woman MP Nakaseke District , James Kakooza EALA MP,  Cissy Namujju Woman MP Lwengo, Allion Odria MP Aringa South, Twaha Kagabo MP Bukoto South among others  and the Minister of State for Microfinance Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo .

Other tax defaulters include artiste Jose Chameleone, former Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma, former Deputy Spokesperson of UPDF Deo Akiiki, Uganda Telcom, Uganda Muslim Supreme Councils among others.
