The Uganda Police Force has arrested more than 150 suspects during coordinated night operations conducted across several areas in the Kampala Metropolitan region.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations targeted identified crime hotspots and black spots where suspected criminals gather to smoke narcotic substances, gamble, and plan criminal activities such as phone snatching, burglaries, and robberies.

“The operations were jointly carried out by the Police with support from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and were supervised by Divisional Police Commanders and Operations Commanders in their respective jurisdictions,” Owoyesigyire said.

Areas covered during the operations included Kira, Kajjansi, Wandegeya, Kakiri, Matugga, Kira Road, and the Central Business District.

Police said more than 150 suspects were arrested from different black spots during the operations.
Exhibits recovered included marijuana, suspected narcotic substances, knives, playing cards, and other items believed to be used in criminal activities.

Several cases have been opened at the respective police stations, and the suspects are currently undergoing screening, statement recording, and processing for court.

Police said the operations will continue across the metropolitan area as part of efforts to deter criminal activity and enhance public safety.
Owoyesigyire also called on members of the public to share information with police to help identify criminal elements within their communities.
