Police Crack Down on Crime Ahead of Easter, Over 100 Arrested in Kampala

Security agencies in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have intensified operations ahead of the Easter holiday, arresting over 100 suspects in a series of coordinated crackdowns targeting criminal activity.

According to Racheal Kawala Spokesperson- Kampala metropolitan, the operations were conducted on April 1, 2026, between 8:30pm and 3:00am, focusing on crime-prone areas across the region.

Police in Entebbe carried out operations in Kasenyi and Nakiwogo, arresting 23 suspects. In Mukono, operations in Kawoola, Katoogo, Takajjunge, and Kubiri led to the arrest of 36 suspects.
In Kampala, Old Kampala Police conducted operations in the New Taxi Park and Kakajo areas, arresting 24 suspects. At Katwe Division, 14 suspects were arrested during operations in St. Augustine Zone.

Meanwhile, Kira Division carried out similar operations in Mulawa, Kitukutwe, and Kiwologoma in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, leading to the arrest of 11 suspects.

Police also recovered exhibits including suspected marijuana in the form of dry leaves, rolled sticks, and fresh plant materials, among other items.

Kawala said all suspects remain in custody pending court proceedings, adding that operations will continue throughout the Easter period to ensure public safety.
