Fred Bangumya Rwakaizi has expressed interest in contesting for a seat in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Rwakaizi told journalists at Parliament ,his ambition is anchored on three key priorities: aligning national parliaments with EALA in Arusha, ensuring regional security, and promoting free trade across member states.

“Why do we have policies passed in Arusha that are not implemented at the national level?” he asked, stressing the need for stronger coordination so that laws from EALA are enforced in capitals such as Kigali and beyond.

On security, Rwakaizi warned that trade cannot thrive in unstable conditions.

“You cannot have free trade where there is insecurity,” he said, pointing to challenges in countries like South Sudan.

With a decade of parliamentary experience and a background in trade, Rwakaizi said he is ready to ensure that East African regional policies are effectively implemented and that economic activity is protected across the bloc.
