Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa urged newly appointed Committee Chairpersons to conduct their duties with integrity and transparency to restore public trust in Parliament. .

While officiating at the orientation session of the new parliamentary committee chairpersons, he emphasized the importance of openness, stating that they deal with state matters and should not hide.

Tayebwa also urged Chairpersons to create a non-hostile environment when interfacing with witnesses, citing complaints from Ministers about MPs harassing them during meetings.

Tayebwa encouraged Committees to hold meetings within Parliament to avoid bribery allegations. Tayebwa also urged Committees to scrutinize everything in the open, ensuring transparency in their dealings.

By championing a culture of transparency and accountability within Parliament, Tayebwa is aiming to restore public trust amidst corruption allegations. However, he criticized the executive for neglecting to implement parliamentary recommendations, hindering the fight against corruption.

Meanwhile, a censure motion against four backbench commissioners of parliament, led by Lwemiyaga county legislator Theodore Ssekikubo, has gained momentum. As of today, the motion has secured 178 signatures, surpassing the required 177 signatures stipulated by law. This paves the way for the motion to be presented on the parliamentary floor.
