Following council decision to scrap the incentives a decision that was announced by the vice chancellor Makerere university, Prof. Nawangwe on Friday last week, now MUASA executive that has sat today is strongly disagreeing with the decision and calls for a meeting with the university administration as well as the council for details.

Addressing a news conference after the closed door meeting that lasted for over two hours at the university, MUASA chairperson, Dr. Muhwezi Deusstates that the decision did not represent their views on theRwendeire commission but was drawn from personal reports from the university leadership.

The leadership now calls for a serious meeting with the management to forge a way forward before the agreed time of July 2018 to have the incentives totaling to overUGX.3bn paid to the staff.

The now call upon management and council to listen to their voices to “prevent turning down the tables with the meals.” Says. Dr. Muhwezi.

In a related development, University students under their body, Uganda national students association are strongly against the decision by Makerere university council which saw the scrapping of evening classes starting with the coming intake.

Jotham Mburobuto the president of the students’ association reveals that students were not happy with council resolution and now call for a real visibility study on this resolution for a final decision to be reached upon.

The university administration reveals that they are facing financial constraints with the evening programmes hence the need to have it scrapped.

Meanwhile, MUASA leadership led by their chairperson, Dr.Muhwezi Deus also maintains that council should hold a meeting to give them details of why they had to scrap the evening classes, adding that the decision is far different from what they had agreed on with the lecturers and support staff.
