Physiotherapists in Uganda are seriously warning the general public against quack service providers saying they risk their lives to more complex health issues as the quacks are not fully qualified to offer therapy services to patients who then cause severe injuries to patients.

Addressing a news conference ahead of the planned health walk geared at sensitizing the public on physiotherapy services this Saturday in Kampala, Dr. Kasiita Richard a principal physiotherapist at Mulago referral hospital decries the very few numbers of physiotherapists in the country which stands at 229 saying this does not match the increasing numbers of patients who need in the country.
He further notes that mulago physiotherapy clinic receives on a daily basis 60 to 80 out patients a number the experts say is huge and this gives chance to Gyms and Spas to provide unqualified services to clients who end up at Mulago with complex health issues.

But the president of Uganda physiotherapy association, Dr. Susan Akori confirms that every person is a candidate to their services saying that physiotherapy treatment cuts across all ages and most of the time chronic diseases heavy sports work, accidents among other factors can lead someone into their clinic.

However, we caught up with one Kanja Hassan, a patient at the clinic who has for the past three months been receiving treatment at the clinic following an operation on his spine which had paralyzed him to a point that he could not even walk or stand.

But with the treatment from qualified medical officers at the clinic he can now walk, stand and do some light work at home but lost his job due to the back problem.
