PostBank Uganda has been awarded the prestigious Sustainability Certification by the European Organization for Sustainable Development (EOSD), a recognition that underscores the bank’s dedication to sustainable banking practices and its role in driving socio-economic development in Uganda.
EOSD, based in Germany, is a global authority in promoting sustainability across sectors, particularly in finance, by helping institutions implement strategies that foster responsible growth, protect the environment, and contribute to resilient economies.
The certification positions PostBank Uganda as a regional leader in sustainable finance, validating its efforts to integrate sustainability across its operations, products, and services.
Julius Kakeeto, Managing Director of PostBank Uganda, which is rebranding as Pearl Bank, noted that the recognition aligns with the bank’s five-year strategy to evolve as a purpose-led, sustainable institution.
“As an indigenous Bank, we’re focused on powering SMEs to support economic transformation in the priority sectors, create jobs, and build a high-value economy”-Kakeeto said.
Its digital wallet, Wendi, plays a critical role in promoting sustainable financial inclusion, enabling Ugandans to save, invest, pay bills, and conduct domestic and international transactions affordably and securely via mobile phones.
Arshad Rab, CEO of EOSD and Chairman of the Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative, praised PostBank for repurposing its strategy to align with global sustainability priorities.
He highlighted that customers and partners increasingly seek financial institutions that are impact-driven, creating opportunities for banks like PostBank Uganda to attract responsible partners, support sustainable businesses, and achieve profitability while delivering social and environmental benefits.
“The certification for PostBank is proof that profitability and sustainability can move hand in hand,” Arshad said.
Through this recognition, PostBank is positioned as a trailblazer in sustainable finance within the region, proving that forward-looking financial institutions can combine financial performance with purposeful action to foster inclusive growth, social good, and environmental stewardship.
By embedding sustainability into its core strategy, PostBank Uganda exemplifies how banks can contribute to long-term development while addressing the evolving expectations of customers, partners, and society at large.
