The Parliamentary Select Committee which was appointed to investigate the National Social Security Fund- NSSF has recommended the resignation of the Minister for Gender Betty Among in public interest after finding her guilty of influence peddling and political interference in the management of the fund.

The committee found the minister guilty of abuse of office, mismanagement, and political interference over the 6bn request and questionable reappointment of Patrick Ayota as the acting fund manager for the next five years.

The Mwine Mpaka-led select committee that investigated NSSF for close to a month scrutinizing politics has recommended the resignation of the minister in public interest after faulting the Minister over her involvement in the initiation of the 6 billion budget which she said was for popularizing the NSSF among the savers. The minister had earlier told the committee that the money had been passed by the board which they denied.

The committee report also recommended that the NSSF board of seven members be dissolved over failure to occasionally secure the saver’s fund and provide effective management.

As parliament watched in surprise at the findings, the report indicated that former managing director Richard Byarugaba, acting caretaker newly appointed Patrick Ayota, chief finance officer Steven Mwanje, and corporate affairs manager Barbra Arimi Teddy step aside to pave the way for investigation by the IGG.

The Adhoc committee has also called for a lifestyle audit on Richard Byarugaba, Patrick Ayota, and other ten top management officials over involvement in corruption and other activities that undermine the management of the fund causing losses to the savers.

The committee discovered several issues of mismanagement of public funds, abuse of office, and cause of loss to savers among others, and recommended as follows.

However, debate on the report by members of parliament has been stayed up to tomorrow, when the minister and other implicated legislators are expected to defend themselves
