Three people have been confirmed dead following a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday morning at Impala Interchange along the Entebbe Expressway.

According to the Public Relations Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, SP Michael Kananura, the crash happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. and involved motor vehicle registration number UBG 734S, a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Kananura said the driver, Ssenyonjo Bosco, a businessman and resident of Masaka, was travelling with his family towards the Entebbe side when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to speeding.

“The vehicle first knocked the base of a street light pole before hitting a road pillar and overturning several times,” Kananura explained.
As a result of the crash, three occupants, including the driver, died instantly, while two others sustained severe injuries.

Traffic Police officers quickly responded to the scene, rescued the injured victims and rushed them to Grade B Hospital, where they received first aid before being referred to another medical facility for further treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to City Mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations into the crash begin.

Road accidents remain a major safety concern in Uganda and across East Africa, where speeding, reckless overtaking and poor road conditions contribute to a high number of fatalities.

In Uganda alone, 5,144 road deaths were recorded in 2024, up from 4,806 in 2023, according to official statistics.
