Workers’ Member of Parliament, Agnes Kunihira, has warned the government that it will be difficult to persuade teachers with low qualifications in education to upgrade when there is a new policy in the Ministry of Education on salary disparity. She made these remarks while speaking at the unveiling of the new labor center in Ntinda.

She mentioned that the president should be advised that paying different salaries to teachers is demoralizing and dangerous to the economy.

Kunihira also stated that some teachers have started applying for early retirement due to poor pay and discrimination by the government.

Furthermore, she pointed out that the government is also losing out on the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax from casual workers because they are not paid by their employers using a payroll, due to the absence of a minimum wage law.
