A group of MPs has written to Speaker Anite Annet Among, seeking to withdraw their signatures from a motion to remove four parliamentary commissioners.
Fadhill Kisos Chemaswet (Soi County) and Solomon Chelang’at (Too County) addressed journalists at parliament, stating they no longer want their signatures used for a new motion that differs from the original intent. This comes after a court dismissed the petition to censure the commissioners.
The MPs claim the motion’s movers are using their signatures to accuse the commissioners of misusing funds, siphoning money, and taking unauthorized trips abroad, violating various regulations. However, they argue that these allegations were not part of the original motion.
Speaker Among had stated that the court ruling covered all aspects of the motion, making further action legally redundant and violating the principle of res judicata. Despite this, Theodore Ssekikubo raised new allegations, prompting the MPs to withdraw their signatures.
The MPs emphasized that Ssekikubo’s recent public statements on NBS television, including claims of commissioners traveling with spouses and awarding contracts, were not part of the original motion. Therefore, they have formally withdrawn their signatures and consent from the motion filed on August 5th, 2024.”
