Kampala, Uganda – Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Second National Vice-Chairperson (Female) on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Her bid has received strong backing from several leaders in Lwengo District, led by the district’s Woman Representative, Hon. Cissy Namujju.

During a vibrant gathering attended by party , NRM leaders, and  representatives from Lwengo District, Speaker Among articulated her motivation for seeking the seat, emphasizing her deep-rooted commitment to the party and her record in uniting Parliament.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to take,” she stated. “But the endorsement I got from several leaders was because of my mobilization skills and the unity I have helped build. If you look at the Parliament of Uganda, you will see a very united institution.”

Among noted that her decision is not about displacing anyone but about adding value to the party. She cited the need for the party’s leadership to include influential figures who can connect Parliament, the Executive, the Judiciary, and the grassroots.

“You cannot be Speaker of Parliament and not be part of the top organ that makes decisions for the country,” she emphasized. “I need to bring what is discussed in CEC to Parliament, and vice versa.”

She further pledged to serve with humility and dedication, advocating for a more cohesive and stronger NRM.

Hon. Cissy Namuju praised Among for her leadership and described her as the right candidate to steer the NRM forward.

“This is your time,” said Namujju. “You have our support, and we believe you will take the party to greater heights.”

Her declaration sets the stage for a high-profile contest against the incumbent, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Minister for East African Community Affairs and former Speaker of Parliament.

The declaration event also included messages of solidarity from other districts, including Bukedea and Buyende, all lauding Among’s leadership style and dedication

Separately, Among urged leaders to ensure efficient implementation of government programs, referencing the recent disbursement of UGX 1 billion to districts for road and water projects.

“You must ensure this money is utilized properly. We don’t want complaints from citizens saying NRM leaders are mismanaging resources,” she warned.

She also promised increased support to NRM structures and emphasized transparency, sustainability, and accountability in all party-related initiatives.

Speaker Among concluded her address by expressing gratitude to her home district of Bukedea and the people of Lwengo for their overwhelming support, calling on all NRM members to unite in strengthening the party.
