Bukora East, Uganda – The incumbent Bukora East Member of Parliament, Hon. Peterken Ochap, has called for unity among political players following his victory in the recently concluded NRM party primaries, where he secured the party flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Hon. Ochap, who is serving in the 11th Parliament, is now seeking re-election and will tussle it out with candidates from other political parties in next year’s national polls.

He extended an olive branch to his former primary opponents and opposition members, urging them to set aside their political differences and work together to deliver better services to the people of Bukora East.

“We had a peaceful campaign—there was no violence because my agents were disciplined and focused,” Ochap said.
“Some opposition members tried to stir up trouble, but I advised my supporters to remain calm and confront no one. We must show maturity in politics.”

Emphasizes Need for Health Sector Support

Ochap expressed appreciation to the government for progress made in the health sector, particularly the upgrading of Karochere Health Centre to Health Centre IV status. However, he emphasized that the growing population in the area still faces critical healthcare challenges.

“Many women still struggle to access medical care due to long distances and the limited number of health facilities. Some end up giving birth at home, which increases the risk of complications,” he said.

He outlined the risks of inadequate antenatal care, including miscarriages, premature births, severe bleeding, anemia, and mental health disorders due to postpartum stress.

More Hospitals Coming Through Italian Loan Facility

Hon. Ochap revealed that more health centers will be constructed under a government project funded by an Italian loan, in which he is a key member involved in its implementation.

“We are working to ensure that this loan helps construct more hospital structures, especially in rural areas where patient numbers are overwhelming,” he stated.

Calls for Youth Participation and Institutional Respect

While rallying young people to take active roles in leadership and development, Ochap stressed the need to respect electoral institutions like the Electoral Commission to maintain national stability.

“This is a time for youth leadership, yes, but it must go hand in hand with respect for the law and electoral processes,” he said.

Ochap reaffirmed his commitment to serve all constituents regardless of political affiliation and invited everyone to join him in moving Bukora East forward.
