NMS Donates 10 Millions to Nodding Disease Victims

By Nassiwa Hanifah

Deputy Speaker of parliament and Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah has applauded National medical stores (NMS) for working with Doctors Clinic to support the recovery of Nodding Disease Victims.

Oulanyah was speaking at the handover of vitamins and essential materials by NMS in Odek HCII in Omoro district.

“I am happy to come here today and tell you that new supplements have been put together to help you and you will be the first people to benefit” he said.

Oulanyah heartily expressed his appreciation to friends and well-wishers who stood with the victims since the disease broke out and added that without their constant support, it would not be possible.

“For us believers in Christ we know that whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, than you do unto me, NMS thank you for coming to visit us when we are sick” Oulanyah said.
He pledged to provide support to NMS and look into any matters that they may preset to Parliament.

Oulanyah also asked the mothers of the affected children to form a working group, such that funds from friends and well-wishers are channeled to them, saying a total of 10 million shillings is already available.

The C/man NMS board DR kamabare Moses said that NMS has been providing medicine to health centers with the ND and wished the intervention of NMS had come earlier but is happy that Omoro will be the first beneficiary of this supplement.

Kamabare said that he is happy to be in Omoro to bring hope to the people in the district. He informed the residents that NMS does not only care about their well being but also wants to join hands with government to support all their other health needs.

LC5 Omoro and c/man ND task force Peter Okao informed the gathering that the center at Odek has 25 patients and 187 in the community who are being accessed using outreach program

Okao appealed to the government for more support and stated that the ND center received funding from govt for 4 months but it’s coming to an end.
He added that Lalogi center 4 is providing support to all neighboring districts but sometimes medicine runs out in the middle of the month.

He revealed that NMS has been giving medicine through Odek HC3, but requested that Odek HC II be upgraded to HC3.

Okao also thanked the deputy speaker of parliament for standing with the people of Omoro during their most trying times and for spreading awareness about the plight of the children.
