Adjumani East MP Mamawi-Speaks Out on Charcoal Theft -Claims

The Adjumani East MP James Mamawi who is being investigated by police over Charcoal theft has spoken out on the matter and rebuked accusations against him. He denied stealing the said charcoal saying his woes are fueled by charcoal dealers and politicians.

Mamawi says that he is ready to face the parliamentary Disciplinary committee to clear his name that has been defamed by the accusation.

Police in Adjumani District allegedly issued criminal summons against Adjumani East MP, James Mamawi over charges of theft. The honorable member allegedly waylaid a truck along Mungula road in Adjumani town and forcefully took away 60 bags of charcoal as was reported by the press. The embattled legislator has come out today and denied accusations against him saying they are fabricated by a racket of timber dealers that are depleting the ZOKA forest reserve.

MP denied stealing any bags of charcoal from the complainants saying their charcoal was confiscated by police after the owners failed to produce a permit and a license from the district authorizing them to produce or deal in charcoal.

However, Mamawi expressed disappointment with the hullaballoo spread by the media against him, saying it has badly damaged his image and defamed him in society. He revealed that he is consulting his lawyers to take legal action.

The legislator has vowed to face off with the parliamentary committee of Rules, Privileges, and Discipline to clean his name if he is summoned over misconduct.

The legislator has also blamed his woes on political opponents who are fueling the story in the media for political gains.
