Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among has gifted households in Bukedea with construction materials, in a bid to promote the ownership of permanent houses. National Referral Mental Hospital and the Ministry of Health are calling for a complete prohibition on the cultivation and consumption of Cannabis and Khati in the proposed Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Bill, 2023, which is currently being considered. The parliamentary committee for Local Government and Public Service is conducting oversight visits to all new cities to evaluate their effectiveness. This comes amid growing tension between the authorities of these new cities and the displaced districts that are being asked to relocate their headquarters from the cities. In 2020, the establishment of 10 new cities resulted in 10 original districts without a central office. As a consequence, tensions have been rising between the two governing bodies. Legislators on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have warned Jinja Hospital management against conniving with commercial banks to sign up staff for loans without their consent, in order to get commission saying this has impacted the livelihood of public servants.
