Musicians Face Backlash for Promoting Nudity

Members parliament who sit on the parliamentary forum for ethics and integrity have expressed concerns at what they termed “excessive nudity” in Uganda’s music industry, describing the current dress code among artists as ungodly and un-African.

Led by the Chairperson of the forum, also  Bufumbira East MP Dr. James Nsaba Buturo , alongside Laroo-Pece Division MP Fr. Charles Onen and National PWD Representative  Peggy Wako , the trio were reacting to the recent music show featuring two top female artists Sheebah Karungi and Cinderella Sanyu who battled out over the weekend at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Addressing the Press at Parliament, Buturo slammed artistes over the indecent fashion sense describing it as negative, cursing that this could be the reason why many of them after  leaving the stage, they tend to disappear in oblivion and urged them to emulate old artistes whose legacy lives on even in death.

They noted that many of the artists today aren’t contributing positively in so far as protection and promotion of Uganda’s values as they chose to promote nudity instead of national values.

Lawmakers asked artists to carry themselves with grace other than disgrace arguing that music is form of employment for our young generation and also acts as recreation.

Father Onen accused artists of Uganda of being drug addicts, saying the substance abuse has hampered artists from exploring their role as teachers, philosophers, and visionaries.

They called on the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Gender and the ministry of ethics and integrity  to style up and guide Uganda. They also didn’t spare national leaders who attend music shows where performing artistes  expose their nudity.
