NUDIPU Appeals to Government to Consider People With Disability For Covid-19- Vaccination

By Admin

The National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) has called on the government to give people with disabilities a priority in the ongoing mass vaccination campaign against Covid-19.

Mpidi Bumali the PWDs Member of Parliament says the special interest group is worst hit by the pandemic and deserves special attention.

As of today, Uganda has administered 1,152,874 doses of AstraZeneca Vaccines in the target to vaccinate at least 21 million people to attain hard immunity. After receiving more vaccines from Norway and China as donations, people with disabilities under the National Union of Disabled Persons Uganda (NUDIPU) have come out to ask Government to consider them among the vulnerable groups to receive Covid Jabs first.

Bumaali Mpindi a member of parliament representing PWDs who also doubles as the chairperson of NUDIPU has asked the ministry of health to make Covid-19 Vaccination centers user-friendly and accessible for disabled persons. They want a sign language interpreter to be placed at every vaccination center.

(NUDIPU) says PWDs have been the most affected by covid-19 in terms of death and inconveniences brought by related standard operating procedures.

The disabled Parsons has tasked the ministry of health to capture statistics of the PWDS whenever they update the country on the vaccination progress.

As a cooperate group, NUDIP says they have no alternative to getting vaccines from their Partners but only to depend on the government to do the needful. Mass Vaccination resumed this week at different health centers in all the 136 districts of Uganda.
