Parliament Pays Tribute To Cecilia Ogwal

Parliament has officially paid tribute to the fallen Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal who died at 77 in India last week

Ogwal has been eulogized as a unifying factor in Uganda’s polarized political landscape; commended for looking beyond party colors in her service to Uganda.

Speaker Among led Parliament in paying tribute to former Dokolo District Woman Representative, Cecilia Atim Ogwal. She told parliament that Cecilia Ogwal’s health deteriorated during the recently concluded Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC).

The deceased Cecilia Ogwal was the Chairperson of the Sub-Committee of Spouses and Accompanying Persons during the 27th CSPOC held early this month at the Commonwealth Resort Hotel, Munyonyo. The speaker noted that it wasn’t easy to know about Ogwal’s ill health because she kept her condition to herself.

The House has hailed Cecilia Ogwal’s illustrious career and contribution since she cut her political teeth in 1980 when she became the Assistant Secretary General of the Uganda People’s Congress Party (UPC).

When the debate intensified on the legacy of the Ogwal, it was time for every MP to reveal what she meant to them.

Ogwal, a mother, politician, businesswoman, and staunch Christian has been hailed by parliamentarians for excelling in several disciplines.

The late Dokolo Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal has been eulogized as an exceptional orator, whose political speeches moved the masses and won debates on the floor of parliament.

Ogwal, 77 who died in India last Friday was also remembered as a unifying factor in Uganda’s polarized political landscape. She was commended for looking beyond party colors in her service to Uganda.

Ogwal also was remembered for her straightforwardness when dealing with dicey matters, especially those revolving around the presidency.

The motion to pay tribute has been amended to urge the government to set up a befitting structure in honor of the late and also fulfill her outstanding claims with the government.
