Uganda is Ready to Host Conference of Speakers of the Commonwealth-Among

Uganda is set to host the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) from January 3rd to 6th, 2024. The conference will be held at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Kampala.

The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, announced that 42 speakers from 32 countries are expected to attend a conference that will focus on Democracy, the environment, Health, Gender, and other topics.

“We also chose the topics that we want to discuss, We have been discussing issues of the environment in the house and one of the topics that we want to discuss in the conference is the environment, Climate Change, and the role of Parliament in the Preservation and Conservation of the environment,” she stated.

The conference is expected to boost tourism and attract investors to the country. President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially open the conference as the chief guest.

The speaker reassured participating countries that Uganda is safe and secure, with all security organizations working together to ensure the safety of the event.

Earlier in the day, the speaker of Parliament held a closed-door meeting with some of the representatives of the countries who have confirmed their attendance in January.

Uganda was confirmed as the host of the conference at the 26th CSPOC in Canberra, Australia in January 2023.

This conference will bring together Speakers and Presiding Officers of National Parliaments of all Independent Sovereign States of the Commonwealth, with current membership consisting of 74 Speakers and Presiding Officers from 52 Commonwealth Countries.

The objectives of the conference are to maintain, foster, and encourage impartiality and fairness among speakers and presiding officers in all the common-wealth parliaments, additionally aims to promote knowledge and understanding of Parliamentary democracy in its various forms.
